"AOW" is an electro duo of Dan Ghenacia and Tolga Fidan, inspired by the "Dreamachine," the hallucinatory device created by "Brion Gysin," the 20th-century artist also famous as a maker of "sound poetry." Dan Ghenacia originally founded the popular tech/minimal house label 〈FREAK N' CHIC〉, while Tolga Fidan is known as a central artist on the veteran Berlin label 〈VAKANT〉 and a master of minimal house, and this EP is a psychedelic work that musically recreates their own mental experiences. Among the tracks, B1. Red Alert (Sample1), where druggy electro sounds ring out amid a cool ambience, is marked by electronic tones that access the brain directly and the dubby resonance of heavy low toms. That dub feel is then fully unfolded on B2. Organico (Sample2), a dark, roots-dub-flavored psychedelic downtempo cut — great stuff. Highly recommended.
