Repress! AKIO NAGASE (MAKEDUB), who has been active in Osaka’s left-field techno scene for over 20 years, has already dropped a new release on 〈(EMOTIONAL) ESPECIAL〉! Following his previous work, which infused world music with 303 acid, this new release takes us to Africa. You’ll be swayed by the interplay between dub-heavy bass and percussion.
KIM ANN FOXMAN, ALPHONSE, KHIDJA, and other alternative talents have left their mark with numerous club hits on 〈(EMOTIONAL) ESPECIAL〉—and now Osaka veteran AKIO NAGASE is making an early comeback! Starting with “Acid Maasai Collecthiv” (sample 2), which builds up with springy, heavy bass and thick 303 layers layered over ethnic chants, and New Age acid dance tracks like “Morisyen Acid” (sample 1) and “Jua” (sample 3)—guided by euphoric ethnic percussion—are also absolutely superb.
