Percussion, horns, keyboards, and various jazz instruments are sucked into a dub black hole. Highly recommended! The trio project “COSMIC THREAT,” featuring clarinetist VOLKER HEMKEN, DISRUPT, and KIKI HITOMI (KING MIDAS SOUND), has been launched on the 〈JAHTARI〉 label. A masterpiece of dub cosmic jazz described as existing in the space between SUN RA and PRINCE JAMMY.
Professional musician VOLKER HEMKEN, who has served as principal bass clarinetist with the Gewandhaus Orchestra since 1992, label owner and dub scientist DISRUPT, and KIKI HITOMI—also known as a member of WAQWAQ KINGDOM and KING MIDAS SOUND—have released the debut album from their collaborative project, “COSMIC THREAT”! Not only the lead instruments like the electric piano and clarinet, but also the percussion, vocal phrases, and even the sub-bass have all been fully processed with dub effects. The sounds drift through a floating, ethereal space—a space that stands on its own as a cohesive cosmic jazz work. I highly recommend this album—it’s so good I’d personally put it on my list of the year’s best. Don’t miss it!
