Joana Queiroz is a clarinetist who was a member of Brazil's ICHIBELE ORCHESTRA FAMILIAR, a group known for its ongoing exploration of polyharmonic and polyrhythmic music and for its partnership with Hermeto Pascoal. She was introduced to me by Shhhhhh, and her fifth album "Tempo Sem Tempo" was released in 2019 on Spiral records in Japan only (it was later released in Brazil), and is now released in analog by Squama, a German label that pursues cutting-edge jazz of the day. The music is a magical blend of multi-layered progressions, rhythms, breathtaking sonic details, repetitions, changes, and layers, with covers by Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and others.
