Why does the piano, playing against the backdrop of a record’s scratchy noise, sound so moving? Depending on the track, it’s played within a balance that makes it sound like noise music or even doom. While works like Cage’s 4’33” and Marie Schafer’s soundscapes tend to focus on ambient sounds, this piece sounds like an experience of an imaginary nostalgia that transcends time.
