Why does the piano, playing against the backdrop of a record’s scratchy noise, sound so moving? Depending on the track, it’s played within a balance that makes it sound like noise music or even doom. While works like Cage’s *4’33”* and Marie Schafer’s soundscapes tend to focus on ambient sounds, this piece sounds like an experience of an imaginary nostalgia that transcends time.
