A sound where folk, ambient, new age and psychedelia blend gently together, paired with the artless, endearing voice that only comes with age. His works, including the debut he released in the '70s, went largely unappreciated at the time (that was the very year the Beatles put out Let It Be), and he withdrew from the spotlight. A wave of reappraisal arrived in the '90s, and he released TOMORROW, TOMORROW & TOMORROW in 2005 and Still Some Light in 2010, compilations of previously unreleased archival recordings, on CD. In the 2000s, covers by the likes of WILCO and Jim O'Rourke gave him a boost from later generations of musicians, and this hidden-treasure talent finally became widely known. Last year saw the release of covers of Bill Fay classics by Steve Gunn and Mary Lattimore.
