The third installment in the legendary series of 70s instrumental reggae/dub peaks helmed by Joe Gibbs — a series that hugely influenced and won a following within the UK post-punk movement — originally released in 1977, "African Dub All-Mighty Chapter 3," gets a remastered limited vinyl reissue (2023, LTD Red Vinyl LP)!!! A welcome return for this beloved LOFT CLASSIC, featuring A1 "Chapter Three," long familiar from David Mancuso's sets.

Centered on Joe Gibbs, with the master musicians who propped up the scene at the time — Soul Syndicate, We The People, the Revolutionaries — rotating in and out as The Professionals to weave these gem-like ensemble sessions, and with the artisanal engineering and mixing of the genius Errol Thomson, whose unique, intelligence-packed ideas are deployed throughout: this is the third chapter of a series that defines the golden age of 1970s dub. It's the most adventurous, roughest and most ferocious of the whole run! Spiritual, smokin' dope, with a fat sound that's simply too good. In the Lee "Scratch" Perry manner, there's water, electronic siren tones, chimes, telephone bells and all manner of found sounds — a bold musique concrète/collage-like psychedelic effects mix that really lands. Opener A1 "Chapter Three" (sample 1), A4 "Freedom Call" (sample 2), and B1 "The Entebbe Affair" (sample 3) — with its collage intro and lovably mellow, oddball synthesizer — are all great. Ten dubwise cuts loaded with inventive dub effects. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
