Gifted & Blessed is probably best known these days for the Frankie Reyes alias behind "Originalitos," that wonderful record exploring Puerto Rican tradition through Latin standards and originals played on vintage keyboards. Looking back, though, his career runs deep: he was part of the early days of the LA beat scene at Low End Theory and elsewhere, and has produced for and collaborated with artists like Kelela, Ras G, and Steve Arrington. In the underground electronic/dance world he's released work on labels such as Eglo and All City under a range of aliases including GB, Julian Abelar, The Abstract Eye, and The Reflektor. Here he arrives at a warm, hypnotic electronic/downtempo set that feels like a distillation of all those years of music made across so many styles and names. It was reportedly created with a carefully chosen setup: a semi-modular synthesizer, a handful of effects processors, and two analog drum machines.
