Squama, a Munich-based label based in the Fazer area, brings together outstanding musicians from the avant-garde jazz scene. Having released albums by Mongolian singer ENJI and the brilliant Minas-based contemporary Brazilian talent, composer and clarinetist Joana Queiros—and having also facilitated a collaboration between the two—they’ve now hooked up with a young talent from their own region who’s attracting attention. This features collaborations between Kanding Ray’s “ara,” Bambounou’s “Bembe,” Polygonia—who also releases independently digitally—and Simon Popp, the drummer at the heart of Squama.
