[Back in stock] David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke. Gastr Del Sol. Twenty-five years on, this Chicago post-rock group has secured an unshakable place as an essential piece of alternative music history, influencing and beloved by countless listeners. A 3LP box set including previously unreleased material has arrived. Let the advance-released live recording of the unissued "The Seasons Reverse" and the artwork build your anticipation. Twelve tracks: "We Have Dozens Of Titles."

Built around the duo of David Grubbs and Jim O'Rourke, Gastr Del Sol were a key Chicago post-rock band active from 1991 to 1998. With John McEntire and Bundy K. Brown later joining the fold, they left behind seven releases, including the eternal masterpiece "Upgrade & Afterlife," which featured Tony Conrad and Kevin Drumm. Twenty-five years after going on hiatus, a 3LP box set including previously unreleased material has arrived. It opens with an instrumental live version of the classic "The Seasons Reverse" and gathers material released outside Drag City, such as "Quietly Approaching" (contributed to Red Hot + Bothered), "The Japanese Room At La Pagode" (from the split 7-inch with Tony Conrad), and "Harp Factory on Lake Street" (from Table of Elements), along with unreleased live recordings. All tracks remastered by JIM O'ROURKE himself. 3LP box set. (Original Japanese text by Saito)

Track List

Nearly twenty-five years after disbanding, Gastr del Sol have unpacked their archive, stringing together an alternative view to their genre-melting 1993-1998 run. This assembly of previously uncollected studio recordings and beautifully captured unreleased live performances forms a spacious ode to the flux that was their métier; a further set of reinventions that continue to alter the manner in which we hear music, and literally everything else!
