Pithecanthropus Erectus in Harajuku, which opened in 1982, was the cutting edge of pre-bubble Japan and could be called the ignition point of Japanese club culture. Mixer Izumi Miyazaki (Dub Master X), who worked on its sound staff, was listed among MUTE BEAT's members as dub engineer, and between their live performances at Pithecan and the synergy with "Tokyo Soy Sauce" — the event launched in 1986 around four bands, S-KEN & THE HOT BOMBOMS, JAGATARA, MUTE BEAT and Tomatos, that showcased the new sound of Tokyo — the band's name spread far and wide. After their 1987 debut album and 1988's second album "LOVER'S ROCK," they released this third album "MARCH" in July 1989.
Welcoming two new members — Emerson Kitamura on keyboards in place of Hirofumi Asamoto, and Yukiya Naito on guitar, who would later join Super Bad — this was MUTE BEAT's final original album.
Ten timeless gems are collected here, hinting at a new beginning: the title track A1 "MARCH" (sample1), with its striking marching-drum intro; B1 "FIORINA" (sample1); B2 "HARMONY IN MARTINIGUE," with its cute, quirky synthesizer; and B3 "CARILLON" (sample3), a beautifully melodic, wistfully nostalgic classic.
