A collection of traditional music by the Kechwas Lamistas, an Indigenous people of the San Martín region in northern Peru. The area is said to retain strong traces of pre-Hispanic music, ritual and language, and this is a precious document gathering festive ritual dances and the accompanying rhythmic music of the pandilla, as well as Christmas music later introduced by the Jesuits — Quechua music as it was before the influence of urban tourism.
The compiler is Percy Alexander Flores Navarro, a musician and researcher from Tarapoto, Peru, who has devoted himself to documenting and preserving the music of the Indigenous communities of the Lamas region. Realized with support from Bicentenario (Peru's bicentennial independence project), it's a beautifully produced release, right down to the compiler's liner notes.
