A layered ambient folk gem that fuses the Chinese guzheng with modular synthesizers, painting a world that is at once hybrid and harmonious. The latest release from 〈SUBJECT TO RESTRICTIONS DISCS〉, a label that has long explored deep-cut sounds descended from proto-electronics! Mysterious tones created by XUEYAN CHEN and NICOLAS BALMER, two artists rooted in different cultures.

A new addition to the family at 〈SUBJECT TO RESTRICTIONS DISCS〉 — home to krautrock-rooted mavericks like ANATOLIAN WEAPONS and ANNA VS. JUNE — the debut album by electronic folk unit GŪSŪ has arrived. XUEYAN CHEN, born in China and based in Switzerland, has studied the guzheng since childhood. Her fingerpicked guzheng playing experiments with the pentatonic scale in a modern way while remaining grounded in tradition. NICOLAS BALMER's modular synthesis adds deep low end, exploring layered ambient scapes. Beautiful sound that fuses the opposing pairs of ancient and modern, traditional and experimental, synthetic and organic from a multidimensional perspective. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
