Recorded during a 1975 session in Paris with members of the Afro-funk group The Lafayette Afro Rock Band, this track features New York-born master pianist Mal Waldron’s electric piano (Fender Rhodes) bursts forth with lyrical and mellow energy in this little-known, ultra-rare jazz-funk/soul and modal jazz gem, “Candy Girl,” which is now being reissued by Strut as a remastered analog LP reissue!!! Long-awaited restock!! We highly recommend it.
Track List

Electric piano (Fender Rhodes) by Mal Waldron, electronic clavinet by Frank Abel, Moog synthesizer, and a rock-solid rhythm section featuring Lafayette Hudson—a member of the legendary Afro-funk group The Lafayette Afro Rock Band, well-known in the hip-hop and rare groove scenes, who was reportedly touring Europe and France with them at the time—on bass and Donny Donable on drums.
Nearly 10 years after its limited-edition LP release in 2016 by the Paris-based label Libreville Records, and half a century (50 years) after its 1975 debut, this album has finally been reissued as a remastered analog LP by the prestigious Strut label, with a cover design faithful to the original, has finally been reissued! Congratulations. The delicate electric piano chanson-style jazz track “Candy Girl” (B3) (sample 3)—which evokes a certain Michel Legrand—is a charming blend of melancholy and elegance that captivates the listener with its chic beauty and enchanting charm.
