The new album (their second) from Call Sender — a collaborative project between two multi-instrumentalists and recording engineers, UK-based composer/producer Paul Elliott and Bay Area-based drummer Michael Reed — is wonderful, brimming with lo-fi vintage soulful love, library psychedelic funk, and imaginary beautiful mellow heart-tugging vibes.

Seamlessly folding in jazz-funk and breakbeat funk, B-movie soundtracks, library music, psychedelic funk & soul, and a vintage lo-fi soul sensibility, the album spans 10 tracks featuring an array of guest artists: A1 "Brainforests" featuring Shawn Lee (Ping Pong Orchestra/Young Gun Silver Fox); B3 "The Night I Fell," sung in beat-down soulful style by Bay Area R&B singer Andre Cruz; A5 "Two Tails," a psychedelic, wistful vintage exotic funk cut featuring JJ Whitefield (Poets Of Rhythm/Whitefield Brothers) that calls Khruangbin to mind; and B1 "Rainbow," a future B-BOY breaks number featuring Paul Elliott's 7-year-old son. Throughout, they unfurl a dazzling musical world of nostalgic, modern, imaginary beautiful mellow charm.
That said, personally it's the duo-only collaboration tracks — with their gorgeous melodies, wistful soulful breakbeats — like A2 "Laura" (sample1), A4 "Circle" (sample2), B4 "Yutori" (sample3), and B5 "Sea Defence" that really drive home the pair's appeal all over again. Please check out the tracklist too. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
