Born At Midnite is the faux-vanity project of Amery Sandford and David Carriere. Jamming strictly ‘post-party’ with a finish line posture – either completing or scrapping a song in a single evening – the Montreal based duo began writing together in late 2018. Employing samplers, tape machines, and an extemporaneous approach to songwriting, the duo establish an eerily familiar atmosphere through an unpolished lens of thin ice. Playing into whilst poking fun at our era’s omnipresent narcissism and self indulgence, the group stitch together an unsponsored sort of ‘product-placement-punk’. Amery Sandford is a visual artist and easy going pop songstress. She recently released her first solo record Amery - Continue As Amery. David Carriere is a producer, songwriter, and guitarist in the bands TOPS and Marci. More of the same dope shit for your wimpy little ear holes.
Born At Midnite is a duo made up of visual artist/singer Amery Sandford and David Carriere, guitarist/producer of the popular indie pop band TOPS. This record collects the tracks they've released on Bandcamp and elsewhere since forming in 2018. Twelve tracks packed with cute, playful ideas — from songs that cross-breed synth pop, post-punk and DIY styles, like "Y o Y" (sample_1) with its nostalgic sampler- and tape-machine-driven sound and captivating shimmering synths, the dreamy, psychedelic pop of "69" (sample_2), and "Hawt Heart" (sample_3) with its unforgettable '80s-pop-style melody, to mutated takes on indie rock such as "Rockstar Raver" and "Born At Midnite (Every Time)."
