The long-awaited new album “Pacifiques Biches”—the first in four years from the Florian Pellissier Quintet, led by the masterful French pianist Florian Pellissier—has been released by the prestigious French label Hot Casa, which continues to unearth a wealth of Afro-soul and Tropical Funk, and has consistently introduced a steady stream of hot new artists!! A masterpiece of mellow, meditative, peaceful modal chill-out jazz has been born. It had been out of stock for a while, but it seems a long-awaited reissue has finally arrived. Back in stock after a long time! This is great news.

Silence and serenity from the Florian Pellissier Quintet, one of France’s leading ensembles, consisting of five musicians: piano/Rose piano & Mini Moog, trumpet/flugelhorn, tenor saxophone/soprano saxophone, drummer, and double bassist. The sweet, crystal-clear tone of the Fender Rhodes, the delicate resonance of the electric guitar, the trumpet, the elegant melodies of the flugelhorn and saxophones, the introspective universe of the synthesizer, and the drums and bass that leisurely cultivate a humble yet steady groove—all weave together to create a supremely organic musical world. The meditative atmosphere and faintly sweet fragrance are irresistibly soothing. Featuring nine gem-like tracks of peaceful, mellow, and graceful modal modern jazz—with subtle influences of Afro-soul and Afrobeat that let you feel a mellow sense of infinite expansiveness, as if opening a door to a vast space. Archie Ahepp appears as a guest on Track 3, “Archie et John”; Iggy Pop on Track 3, “Only Fan”; and the French Afro-soul duo Djeuhdjoah on Track 4, “Où C’est ? Qui sait ?” (sample 3). I highly recommend this album. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
