Farao has been putting out a singular strain of R&B built on a collection of vintage synthesizers paired with lustrous vocal harmonies. Here she perfects a new style, fusing '90s R&B with a shimmering, zither-laced new age sound drawn heavily from the inspiration of Laraaji. And more than mere inspiration—Laraaji himself appears on zither and voice on "Voice Continues" (sample_3), and a cover of Brandy's "Full Moon" deepens the album's concept even further. It's a beautifully sequenced record, moving from an A-side where R&B and '80s disco come to the fore and the songwriting shines, into a B-side that fills with meditative, glimmering new age/ambient.
