Their lead single "Tell Me" (sample 1) is generating a lot of buzz—a dreamy, downtempo track inspired by Hong Kong New Wave cinema and Cantopop. They’ve also cited influences from 2000s Hong Kong singer Faye Wong and Yoshitoku Sunahara, and the artwork perfectly captures that cohesive aesthetic. This Chinese-American trio features bassist Phil Cho, a member of New York’s In Sheep community, and offers a glimpse into the current mood of the American underground scene, which is steadily getting more interesting.

A scene from a fictional movie lit by Hong Kong’s neon lights? It’s just right! The strangely haunting vocals evoke the 90s indie film vibe of Chinese-American artist Kelly Guan. And while it’s a crafty downtempo track reportedly influenced by Yoshitaka Sunahara, “Grace” (sample 2) also somehow brings to mind early Little Tempo and the great Japanese dub works from the early 2000s.
A nice balance that infuses Music From Memory’s label aesthetic with Asian humidity and allure! The cover art is tasteful, and the worldview is cohesive. This is the kind of music I could listen to for a long time.〜 Awesome! (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
