Félicia Atkinson is a versatile female musician active in a wide range of projects, including works released on her own label, Shelter Press, as well as *La Nuit* with Annie A and La Nuit with Peter Broderick, and her residency work for GRM Portraits. This is the third installment of the “Reflections” collaboration series by these two female musicians. It’s a vinyl release of “Water Poems” [RVNG INTL.]. On Reflections Vol. 3: Water Poems, Félicia Atkinson and Christina Vantzou channel their friendship and atmospheric artistry into ceremonial focus. Spoken-word environments and orchestral imagination flow like tributaries into a unified stream, resulting in a collection of dreamlike songs and soundscapes anchored in sea, sky and stone. Through electro-acoustic instrumentation, voice, and environmental sound, Water Poems invites listeners into a subconscious space somewhere between everyday intimacy and the oceanic enigma from which all life unfolds.
The performance uses mellotron, rose piano, and synthesizers, along with voice and spoken word. The piece "invites the listener into a kind of subconscious space between the intimacy of the everyday and the mystery of the oceans where all life is born." The whispered words, introduced as "a fantastic soundscape," are so faint that they seem to dissolve into each other. Field recordings were made at the ruins of Delphi, Greece, and the natural hot springs of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea, as well as on the island of Idra, Greece, and in Normandy, France. John Also Bennett joins on B3 Scorpio Purple Skies, mastered by Stephan mathieu.
