Jazz Is Dead - Cat No: JID022lp
- updated:2026-05-12
A 2025 studio album from Ghanaian highlife/Afrobeat pioneer Ebo Taylor, completed in collaboration with Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). A psychedelic Afrobeat record that fans of '70s Ebo Taylor won't be able to resist!
Track List

Taylor passed away in February 2026, the year after this release, making 'JID022' his final work. Heartfelt lyrics about love, peace and spirituality, body-moving polyrhythmic percussion, swirling horns and raw guitar all call to mind the landmark recordings that established him in the 1970s as one of 'Africa's most prolific and innovative artists.' Seven tracks in all, including the Afrobeat number 'Obi Do Woa' (sample_1), which sings of lessons in love and relationships; 'Kusi Na Sibo' (sample_2), a life lesson on gratitude; and 'Nsa a W'oanye Edwuma, Ondzidzi' (sample_3), whose hard-to-hear message of 'those who don't work don't eat' goes down easy thanks to the beautiful union of beats and signature JID strings. A one-of-a-kind miracle capturing Jazz Is Dead's gorgeous melodies and psychedelic sound alongside Ebo Taylor's return to his roots. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
