Pascal Comrade, a French avant-pop and toy-pop master who has been active since the 1970s, has released his first-ever compilation album consisting entirely of cover songs—a collection of his favorite covers from his 40-year career—via Week-End Records, a label known for its series of outstanding reissues!!

Nirvana's "Come As You Are" (sample1), Jonathan Richman's "Egyptian Reggae" (sample2), Bob Dylan's "Girl from the North Country" (sample3), The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon," the Ramones' "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker," The Gun Club, Captain Beefheart, MC5, and more — a set of songs that plays like a tour through 60 years of rock 'n' roll history, performed on piano, toy piano, Farfisa, electronic organ, violin, percussion, accordion, sax, toy drums, marimba, trumpet, trombone, contrabass and beyond. The result is a one-of-a-kind European melancholic masterpiece of fairy-tale music, elegant and nostalgic, as if you'd wandered into a storybook world — something only Pascal Comelade could pull off.
Marshall Allen's "New Dawn," Keith Hudson's "Playing It Cool & Playing It Right" and "Nuh Skin Up Dub," Bim Sherman's "Ghetto Dub" — a run of lovingly curated, deeply cool masterpiece reissues and new releases keeps coming from Week-End Records, the label launched by Germany's Week-End Festival in Cologne. Here's the long-awaited new release, number 20. The price is rather steep, but this one is another superb release. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
