It’s said to be a masterpiece with that kind of aura. Created during an artist-in-residence program in Santiago, Chile, the album organically blends elements of electronic, jazz, and ambient music using the quena—a traditional Andean flute—alongside synthesizers and field recordings.
It’s listed as “South American rec,” but personally, I can’t get enough of this sense of illusion… Ruth Goller, who played bass in the predecessor band to Sons of Kemet—which also featured Shabaka Hutchings—is a featured artist. The connection to the UK jazz scene in this context is also fascinating.
