A unique album that takes the “Nawal”—animal spirits from Mesoamerican folk beliefs—as its theme, fusing elements of dub and tribal music with the experimental nature of modern techno and bass music! Mexican-Jamaican artist ANDY MARTIN joins the 〈ANIMALIA〉 family, which has long featured sound artisans. A mystical, shamanic quality permeates the rhythms and soundscape.

A new release from KIA’s label 〈ANIMALIA〉, which has previously featured artists like LOU KARSH and COMMAND D! Introducing ANDY MARTIN, whose recent EP on BEATRICE M.’s label 〈BAIT〉 was a hit, and who has steadily gained a following through releases on labels such as 〈MOLE AUDIO〉. “Sky Spirals” (sample 1) is a psychedelic, mind-bending track that blends organic tribal breakbeats with avant-garde bass sounds and features ritualistic, processed vocals. It’s a mutant stepper techno track “Pleiadian Sound Clash” (sample 2)—this album takes its title from “Tierra de Nahuales,” a region said to have been home to mythical beings in ancient the Americas, and was created with the theme of Mexican folklore, his musical roots.
