Charles Webster is a producer and engineer who hails from the Sheffield and Nottingham scenes in the UK, where a mix of house, techno, bass, electro, hip-hop, and breakbeat flourished in the 1990s. He was based in both the UK and San Francisco. He would later sign with PEACEFROG—which also signed Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Glenn Underground, and Ron Trent—but this track dates from an earlier era. “The Strength,” released in 1996, was created during a period when he had briefly moved to the U.S. and then returned to the UK, launching his own label, Remote. It ties into the legacy of the 90s London house underground scene represented by PAGAN and WIGGLE, has been featured on numerous compilations, and was reissued by 〈Mint Condition〉 in 2019; this release, however, is a reissue from 〈Pariter〉, a sub-label of 〈Sushitech〉. Remastered at Sushitech’s Wood White Studios, with mastering by Manmade Mastering and cutting by Tim Xavier. The sleeve design has also been updated to the Pariter style. A masterpiece.
