Featuring everything from the legendary semi-modular “Buchla Music Easel” to acoustic instruments like the sitar. A soundscape where poetry improvises in response to dreamlike electro-acoustic music! From Toronto-based label 〈MARIONETTE〉, which has long championed genre-defying electro-acoustic music, comes the mystical electronic musical journey of the California-based unit SHAPE OF THE MOON.
Track List

Poet and writer BENJAMIN BURKE, who has experimented with poetics from an academic perspective and been involved in unique artistic projects around the world. Now, SHAPE OF THE MOON—a collaboration between BENJAMIN BURKE and BEAR GLASS, who is also known for solo tape works featuring CARLOS NIÑO and works as a music teacher and live sound engineer—presents their debut album! This collection of recordings combines BURKE’s introspective poetry readings with GLASS’s improvisational performances on modular synthesizers and string instruments, which respond to the poetry. It includes excerpts from an outdoor live performance held under the night sky of the Mojave Desert, unfolding mysterious and immersive textures and melodies that reflect that ambient atmosphere. The accompanying recitations are based on “applied poetics,” having been academically researched to determine how best to resonate with the listener. The beautiful harmony between the two elements creates a meditative soundscape. The artwork is also stunning. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
