Witch Doc? EP

  • Cat No: TOS017
  • updated:2026-08-01

Format

12inch ---- JPY

Features remixes by Fumiya Tanaka and Tomas Station. A unique dance trip by Ohm Hourani & San Proper, released on Maher Daniel’s label *The Other Side*, that evokes a psychedelic voodoo vibe. Highly recommended.

From the Spanish label *The Other Side*—run by Maher Daniel, who has featured artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Jay Tripwire, Phreek, and Pîrvu—comes a collaboration between Ohm Hourani, founder of ANOMA and a native of Montreal, and San Proper, known for his work on *Perlon* and other labels. San Proper’s vocals—which sound like a “witch doctor” casting a spell on you—and the bluesy guitar, reminiscent of Dr. John’s “Night Tripper,” create a hallucinatory and highly unique groove on the original track. I think Fumiya Tanaka’s remix could have been released under the KARAFUTO moniker as well; his beat, built around a drum break, delivers a hypnotic yet powerful dance groove—truly impressive. Tomas Station is a New York-based artist originally from Colombia. He has previously released music on DAILYSESSION, run by DJ MONCHAN, and heads the label *Jigit*, which has also released tracks by Ohm Hourani. This track, with its driving jazzy beat, is also excellent. (Original Japanese text by Saito)

Jazzy Groovy layers with sultry vocals from none other than San Proper, with remixes from Japanese titan Fumiya Tanaka and Jigit mainstay Tomas Station
