Vol. 9 features an opening track that’s both frustratingly unsettling and dangerous, blending old-time jazz, oldies, Caribbean jazz, and an exotic soundscape—a ghostly, echo-drenched soundscape that’s abstract, dangerous, unsettling, and laid-back. Mastering is by Hacchi (Urban Volcano Sounds), and the artwork is by 2YANG—a familiar and reliable lineup.

With a ghostly, echo-drenched soundscape, the album draws you straight into a dreamlike state with sweet ballroom music and Caribbean jazz, then takes you through melting Latin soul ballads, steel guitar, and slow-down cumbia, before moving on to the gem-like golden rocksteady and Treasure Isle dub (the origin of the SIDE.C sensibility) that we’ve cherished and played for years, modern bolero, sexy Latin jazz, salsa meets dub, and ballads infused with Asian allure—this 72-minute journey unfolds with a Caribbean dandy & gentle vibe, a tropical mellow atmosphere, and a laid-back, festive downtown feel, all wrapped in a dreamlike, slightly more humid ambiance than usual. Killer cover versions of “Sleepwalk,” “Breezin’,” and “Smooth Operator” also shine at key moments.
The view from the train window, the scenery slowly shifting by. While the perspective remains the same, the scenery continues to grow more diverse—and now, we’ve finally reached Chapter 9.
