Guitar and a whispering vocal style. Ambience, tape noise, and an intimate feel. A magical moment that unfolds quietly in the wee hours of the night—Madteo, Simone, and Mass Prod present remixes from “3 AM,” the album by Ellis Swan, a Chicago singer-songwriter whose music exudes an outsider vibe and blends psychedelic folk.

Track 1 is Madteo’s “Down By The Reservoir” (Madteo’s Muso Duro What Other Kicks Are There Remix), a title that seems to be a play on the gospel song “Down by the Riverside.” It’s a fantastic remix that unfolds over a little over 10 minutes with tribal, trance-like, ritualistic rhythms. Simone—who releases under the names SMM0000, Banishsh, and Meze—also delivers an obscure, distorted synth breakbeat indie dance track. I believe this is Mass_Prod’s first release in a while—he’s previously released on labels like Kontra-Musik and Bosconi—and this tribal-stepped remix, which could easily be mixed into a techno set, is also excellent. (Original Japanese text by Saito)

Following up on the hidden wonder of Ellis Swan's twilight folk-noir masterpiece 3 AM (Quindi Records, 2022), Altrimenti commissions three bold remixes by Madteo, Simone and Mass Prod, with a wayward slant to rival Swan's own outsider status. A1. Down By The Reservoir (Madteo’s Muso Duro What Other Kicks Are There Remix) A2. Chinatown (Simone Lowered Remix) B. Evening Sun (Mass Prod Remix)
