In 2026, following a string of fantastic releases this year—including his first solo EP of the year, *Under Construction EP*, and the spiritual jazz project *The Message EP*—Alex Nut’s long-awaited new 12-inch release, *The Heat EP*, has finally arrived!! This release features Allysha Joy and Steve Spacek—two artists with distinctive voices who represent the contemporary soul scene—and unfolds a rich sonic landscape where deep house, soul, broken beat, and jazz intersect in a pitch-black crossover, expanding into an urban crossover sound.

From Alex Nut—a key figure who began his career collaborating with artists such as Floating Points, Steven Julien, and Fatima, and has been active behind the scenes of the UK underground scene for many years as a DJ, curator, radio host, remixer, and label owner—comes an ambitious EP that explores a new world of “urban elegance” rooted in groove, feeling, history, and culture, transcending genre boundaries after journeying through electronica and soul. electronica, and soul—unbound by genre boundaries and rooted in groove, feeling, history, and culture.
The EP opens with A1 “Bright” (sample 1), a collaboration with the one-of-a-kind Steve Spacek. In addition to this track, which was released earlier this year, the EP now includes the newly added A2 “Bright (Re-FreQ Mix)” (sample 2), featuring a undulating TB-303 bassline, swinging percussion, and a groove that gently sways the midnight dance floor.
The title track, B1 “The Heat,” is an elegant, crossover broken-beat soul track featuring Australian vocalist Allysha Joy, along with an early sketch (demo), along with B2 “Duck Duck (feat. Sam Crowe)” (sample 3)—a gem of a track that skillfully blends deep and jazzy elements with deep house, capturing the raw atmosphere of the session before the song took its final form, with memorable Rhodes and piano work by longtime collaborator Sam Crowe—all create a beautifully relaxed and elegant vibe. “Duck Duck (feat. Sam Crowe)” (sample 3) is also supremely enjoyable. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
