It goes without saying: the most essential Chicago post-rock band, whose ranks included JIM O'ROURKE and JOHN McENTIRE. Their 3rd album, "Upgrade & Afterlife," is still championed here at NEWTONE — a monster of a record that hasn't aged a day and keeps seeping deeper into you — but don't sleep on this 4th album either. Folk, minimalism, junk, blues, jazz, and an experimental spirit that never comes cheap. Rather than striking some tidy balance, the band swallows it all whole with its hardcore mentality. Overwhelming, as always.
