I first heard it on a SUBLIME FREQUENCIES compilation: "Bong Cha Bong (Pipe, Oh Pipe)," introduced with an English translation saying that as long as he's got his bong (marijuana), he needs neither money nor a girlfriend. Working as a luk thung singer, he developed an Isan pop sound that also folds in elements of mor lam and lae. Apart from work in the rice fields, 99% of what's in his head is booze and women — and that earthy, mischievous, lecherous groove has captivated and been loved by fans of Asian music. Bangkok DJ Maft Sai, one of the key figures behind the present-day reappraisal of Thai funk and mor lam, holds him in deep respect and invited him as a special guest for the third anniversary of his own PARADISE BANGKOK. A welcome reissue complete with translated lyrics and detailed liner notes! (Original Japanese text by Saito)
