Sounding almost as if they'd inherited Boards of Canada's DNA, Ireland's premier electronic mavericks Solar Bears return with a third album inspired by the cycles of the natural world. Over roughly a year, the duo field-recorded volcanic and natural sounds at various locations around the globe, weaving in specific gear such as indigenous instruments to complete this soul-filled downtempo work built on a natural-science concept. The vinyl edition includes a download code.

Solar Bears is an Irish electronic unit made up of John Kowalski and Rian Trench. The group's name comes from film director Andrei Tarkovsky's "Solaris."
"Advancement" is the crystallization of Kowalski's insatiable record digging and Trench's extensive production work. Their early releases drew on everything from krautrock to library music and psychedelic electronica. Their love of film and experimental video also bears fruit here: longtime collaborator, American filmmaker Michael Robinson, handled two music videos as well as the artwork. Robinson's work moves through realms of light, abstraction, texture and the interplay of color, exploring imagery that shines alongside live music performed in specific spaces. And quietly not to be overlooked: mastering comes courtesy of maverick Matt Colton, himself a distinctive bass and techno artist. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
