ROMAN FLUGEL and JÖRN ELLING WUTTKE — also known for their ACID JESUS and SENSORAMA aliases — scored a defining hit in 2004 with "Rocker" under the ALTER EGO name, and now that track gets remixed on their own label by TUFF CITY KIDS, the unit made up of current-scene veteran geniuses GERD JANSON and PHILLIP LAUER. This one feels seriously strange. Cyber electronics with a rock-like sense of momentum, trance-inducing, old school yet somehow totally of the moment — in any case it's completely out there. It charges into a glittering, glaring world that the whole vaporwave thing never quite broke through to. On the B-side, Tuff City Kids also remix "Gate 23" from the following year, 2005.
