A soundscape that is distinctly gray and industrial—embodying the gentlemanly, mysterious, and imaginative sophistication and elegance unique to CARRE—resonates with the sounds of temples and shrines, evoking a meditative and sublime beauty and tranquility, and an unsettling air of mystery—all of which coexist in a strangely harmonious blend with a comfort that is almost exhilarating. This work was realized through an exchange of letters between painter Sakura Kondo—who requested, “Please create a mix for me to use while painting”—and CARRE, and was produced as a musical piece serving as the “presence of a painting” for the exhibition “SAKURA KONDO × CARRE EXHIBITION / GREY SCALE,” held at KATA, a free space in Ebisu, Tokyo.
