Callous EP

  • Cat No: DEXT008

Format

12inch 1650 JPY

A new single from CALLAHAN, whose tribal-bass cut "Kudzu" on the compilation from BROTHERHOOD SOUND SYSTEM — the label that serves as home base for SILAS & SNARE and OTIK — got plenty of attention. Includes a remix by Sheffield hero LO SHEA!

CALLAHAN is one half of MAK & PASTEMAN, the duo on a hot streak with releases on original junglist SHY FX's DIGITAL SOUNDBOY and UNKNOWN TO THE UNKNOWN, and he's also active as a resident DJ at the Bristol party "4 SEASONS." Get hooked on "Ob" (sample1), which burrows coolly along on incantatory minimal development and the push-and-pull of high-toned breaks, and on "Callous (Lo Shea's 4AM Strobe Tunnel Remix)" (sample2), a 4AM strobe mix in which LO SHEA stirs things up hypnotically with razor hi-hats and dope, deep-end pressure bass. The techno cuts — the title track "Callous," named after his own initials, and the ravey full-throttle "Memorex" (sample3) — are killers too.
