10 Years and a Big Fear of Flying

  • Cat No: FOF10YR1

Format

12inch 1450 JPY

Around '06, two guys — BLM a.k.a. BEN MICLEWRIGHT and JAY MASSIVE — met at MASSIVE, a record shop in Oxford, hit it off, and launched the label FEAR OF FLYING. Now comes a compilation celebrating the label's 10th anniversary!

Label boss BLM — whose releases as THE WHITE MAN & THE ARAB, a unit with SOHO of the popular London record shop PHONICA, have been well received, and whose singles on his own THE BUSH imprint are also in demand — leads things off with "Shade" (sample1), where dubby, atmospheric basslines sit just right and a killer mid-section has short-delayed guitar feedback gasping away. Also included: "Two By Two" (sample2), a collaboration with newcomer SINAN making his label debut, driven by galactic arpeggios, and "Streetwave" (sample3), a solo cut with groovy minimal bottom end where frozen piano lines melt into flanger effects that soar along the edge of the stratosphere. Four tracks in all.
