2LP ---- JPY

A remastered, analog reissue of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 1981 masterpiece on 2 LPs! While the vocal tracks on LP 1 are certainly captivating, it’s the instrumental tracks on LP 2—released for the first time—that truly stand out and fit perfectly into today’s music scene! !! I’m once again blown away by the sheer brilliance, coolness, and awesomeness of these cutting-edge tracks. Only the Professor and his team of master musicians could create this soft electronic crossover fusion—a blend of ethnic, cosmic, and “Another YMO”—that captures the humidity and breezes of East Asia, with its unique quirks while still remaining mainstream, rich in experimentation—featuring a variety of dance music styles like abstract Balearic, new wave funk, and left-field disco. All 10 tracks are incredible in their own right!!!

From the French label Wewantsounds—known for its well-received reissue projects featuring artists such as Akiko Yano and Hiroshi Sato—Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 1981 third solo album, *Dreams of the Left Arm*, has been reissued with mastering by Bernie Grundman of the U.S. This two-LP set features instrumental mix versions of all tracks, marking their first-ever release on vinyl. It comes with a 4-page insert and an obi strip. With Robin Scott serving as co-producer, the album features a lineup of cutting-edge guest musicians, including Adrian Belew, Kiyohiko Senba, Kaoru Ito, Haruomi Hosono, and Yukihiro Takahashi. As Sakamoto himself remarked, “Singing isn’t about skill, but about the timbre of the voice; even if it’s bad, as a form of self-expression, it’s the best thing in music,” this masterpiece—which prominently features his own vocals—cemented Ryuichi Sakamoto’s popularity. “The Monkey, Yuki, and the Child of Garbage” unfolds with unpretentious lyrics accompanied by synth riffs with a unique timbre. “Relache,” a new wave disco number featuring Adrian Belew that evokes YMO. The album includes a total of 10 tracks—ranging from the abstract to the pop—including “Living In The Dark,” with lyrics by Tetsuro Kashibuchi of the Moonriders. Furthermore, this reissue includes a bonus instrumental disc featuring instrumental versions of all tracks, whose masters were recently unearthed. It’s a must-have for fans, allowing them to once again savor every detail of the sound production. Be sure to check out the instrumental versions on the track list!
