Following digital releases on Chillmountain—the label run by GROUND, a fellow member from his SOUND CHANNEL days—and releases on DARER THAN WAX, which operates out of Singapore and the U.S., EMOTIONAL RESPONSE’s sub-label (Emotional) Especial has released a new 12-inch featuring four tracks from his catalog. It has arrived. This is global acid that inherits the eclectic charm of ’90s techno—which experimented with fusing hardware sounds with elements of dub and world music—as elements like khöömei, ancient Chinese samples, and Asian landscapes are woven into the acid like a fantasy. On B1, he puts an acid spin on “Asatoya Yunta,” a classic Japanese tropical track beloved by Y.M.O., the great pioneers of Japanese electronic music.
