Contained herein on this hallowed slab is a collection of recordings that were exceedingly obscure when first released but gained traction many years later thanks to hip and frugal DJs, producers, curators, and music supervisors.
Many of the gems on this album have been sampled hundreds of times by artists that have sold millions of records because they knew a good hook when they heard one - while a few are yet to be discovered by a wider audience.
We think the lesson learned is that there is an abundance of undiscovered music out there that is just below the radar, but by burrowing deep enough, one will find a wealth of buried treasure. Here's to the many hard working crate diggers that are willing to take the plunge.

Most of these releases were met with nothing more than negligible acclaim upon their original issue, but as the years passed they were unearthed by the keen aesthetic sense of DJs, beatmakers, producers, etc., stepped back into the spotlight, and have been handed down to the future as so-called breakbeat masterpieces — a lineup of funk gems and treasured rare grooves. Included are NAT PHILLIPS' 1965 single "I'm Sorry I Hurt You" (sample1), produced by L-T-R-Y PRODUCTIONS, who also handled production for Lester Young in his boogaloo period; "Home" (sample2), the classic by Harlem-born soul singer GLORIA BARNES that came to light through samples by ILLA J and CARIBOU; and "Something Bad" (sample3) by THE CHOSEN FEW — a soul/vocal-harmony trio not from Jamaica but from New Jersey — taken from their 1971 album "Taking All The Love I Can" on 〈MAPLE〉; 12 tracks in all.
