Duppy Gun — the outlandish dancehall collective built around Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras together with a crew of Jamaica-based MCs including I Jahbar — has teamed up with Japanese producer Element for a 7-track EP, released jointly by Bristol's Bokeh Versions and Japan's Riddim Chango. Bokeh Versions, the Bristol cult label that has established itself as an obscure dub imprint with releases by Seekers International, Jay Glass Dubs and Low Jack, domestic works from Mars89 and 7FO, plus reissues of TNT Roots, Bush Chemist and Tradition, joins forces with Riddim Chango Records, which has been putting forward new sound system music from its twin bases in Japan and London. This 12-inch collects seven future dancehall tracks (4 vocal cuts, 3 instrumental versions) pairing the intense, killer MC vocals spat out by four Jamaican MCs — Jahbar, G Sudden, King G and Darkblood — with original rhythm tracks produced by Element (whose collaboration with Kingston dub poet Nazamba is still fresh in the memory), sci-fi tinged yet clearly set apart from so-called "techno dancehall."
