  • Cat No: SR509
  • updated:2026-05-20

Format

2LP ---- JPY

A masterpiece compilation featuring a carefully curated selection of Southeast Asian gong music, the result of years of research! We’ve added the latest release from Yasuhiro Morinaga, one of Japan’s most celebrated sound artists and recording engineers. Having visited over 50 ethnic groups and made hundreds of recordings, this 2LP set is organized into two sections focusing primarily on mainland Southeast Asia and Maritime Southeast Asia.

From Belgium’s long-established avant-garde label, *SUB ROSA*. The field recording project “Massif And Archipelago”—which documents traditional gong music from various ethnic groups that the artist has spent years researching and recording, focusing on the gong, an instrument that has played an indispensable role in Asian mythological geography—is now available on vinyl! Using techniques such as the rhythmic linear technique known as “hoquet,” which alternates between chords, the music features melodies that unfold over time, along with vocals and hypnotic repetitions. It is music that is simple yet mysterious and enveloping. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
