Absolutely superb. This unbeatable duo is back!! And on Stones Throw, no less. Neo blue-eyed soul, 2023 edition. Eddie Chacon — the legendary L.A. vocalist who scored major-label hits in the '90s as one half of Charles & Eddie before disappearing from view — produced by the one and only John Carroll Kirby.

In 2021 the two stayed on Ibiza. The story goes that they borrowed and set up the only Fender Rhodes on the island, and at a beachside temporary home called Siesta they listened to Pharoah Sanders' "Greeting to Saud" over and over — an episode straight out of a movie. Maybe it's just knowing that, but emotionally the record feels less like the dry urbanity of L.A. and more like the hippie/hedonistic transience, softness and dreaminess of Ibiza, and you can hear it in the sound. That said, it's not Balearic in flavor — it's tightly focused production from John Carroll Kirby, whose range extends to work with Frank Ocean and Solange.
"White," purely "white," adult-oriented, blue-eyed — those are the phrases that fit. The previous record, the masterpiece Pleasure, Joy And Happiness, was endlessly repeatable, and this one is just as reliably good. Stones Throw is a great fit, too. With the label's maturity and the ripening of the L.A. sound, everything around this record — the story, the whole vibe — is effortlessly stylish. (Original Japanese text by Shhhhh)
