The masterpiece *Yakhal’ Inkomo* by the Mankunku Quartet—the pinnacle of South African jazz, released in 1968 and eagerly awaited by all jazz fans—is being reissued by *MR BONGO* as a special edition with an obi strip!

This ultra-rare album—which was featured by Gilles Peterson on his radio show as one of “The 20 South African Jazz” albums—is so sought-after on the collector’s market that first-press copies sometimes sell for £1,000. This is a quartet album led by tenor saxophonist Winston Mankunku Ngozi (piano: Lionel Pillay; bass: Agrippa Magwaza; drums: Early Mabuza). Side A, consisting of the title track “Yakhal’ Inkomo” (sample_1) and “Dedication” (sample_2)—dedicated to Wayne Shorter and Coltrane—features two exceptionally beautiful original compositions that encompass modal and spiritual styles. Side B features Horace Silver’s “Doodlin’” and Coltrane’s “Bessie’s Blues” (sample_3). A beautiful treasure on par with Coltrane and Wayne Shorter, created by musicians who escaped the harsh apartheid regime of 1968. Don’t miss this opportunity to add it to your collection.
