We’ve stocked the debut EP by June McDoom, a Jamaican artist raised in South Florida who draws heavy inspiration from the minimalist sound of the 1960s and ’70s folk era. 〈Temporary Residence Ltd.〉

She is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter currently based in New York. She cites 1970s singer-songwriters like Judee Sill and Joan Baez, as well as 1960s soul groups such as the Delfonics and the Supremes, and legendary reggae artists like Alton Ellis and Phyllis Dillon. While she hasn’t specifically mentioned it, her acid-folk-style approach—reminiscent of Linda Perhacs and Vashti Bunyan—combined with her natural vocal timbre, is her greatest appeal. On every track, the climax features layers upon layers of sound and harmonies surging forward like a kaleidoscope… It really packs a punch. An EP featuring reworked versions of these tracks is scheduled for release this February, which I’m already looking forward to. She’s definitely one to watch. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
