Amanda Whiting, a Welsh harpist and composer active in the current UK jazz scene who carries on the spiritual tradition established by Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, has released her new album, The Liminality of Her, on First Word, following her collaboration with Don Leisure!! Spiritual, mellow, and gracefully beautiful. Timeless melodies. It had been difficult to find for a while, so this reissue is a delight. The long-awaited reissue is back in stock! Highly recommended.

A spiritual, mellow, alchemical tapestry of pastoral, folky, soft psychedelic, serene, meditative modern jazz—an introspective universe. While her collaboration with Don Leisure, Beyond The Midnight Sun, was also wonderful, on this latest release, The Liminality of Her, the ensemble performance—featuring a band lineup of harp, bass, drums, percussion, flute, and vocals—takes the worldview established by pioneers such as Dorothy Ashby, Alice Coltrane, and other pioneers, while looking toward the future and delving deeper into her own spiritual universe. A graceful, supple, utopian-like world is meticulously crafted through soulful, jazz, and fusion-inspired sounds. The album features a total of 10 tracks. To date, she has undertaken extensive tours with her own band as well as with Matthew Halsall, Rebecca Vasmund, DJ Yoda, and Chip Wickham (who also participates in this new project), and has released three solo albums on Jazzman Records. However, following the release of her collaboration with Don Leisure, Beyond The Midnight Sun, on First Word, she joined the First Word roster, leading to the release of this new album. I highly recommend this album. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
