Rob Mazelek, one of the key artists in the post-post-rock scene from Chicago. Following *New Future City Radio*, which had a radio-collage-like feel, comes his new album *Lightning Dreamers* with the Exploding Star Orchestra. [Limited-edition colored vinyl: Silver Lightning Color]

Led by Rob Mazlek, who had been active with groups such as ISOTOPE217, the Exploding Star Orchestra released its first album in 2007. Since then, the band has released albums on an irregular basis while collaborating with musicians from the Toots scene, as well as legends like Bill Dixon and Roscoe Mitchell, and has continued to release albums sporadically. In 2020, the group joined International Anthem. The album is reportedly based on recordings made on September 23 and 24, 2021, at Sonic Lunch in Tornijo, Texas. The album features guitarist Jeff Parker, vocalist Damon Rocks, drummer Gerald Cleaver, pianist Angelica Sánchez, and Craig Taborn, among others. The first track, titled “Future Shaman,” features percussion by M. Takara—a longtime collaborator in the Iracempó underground scene who moved to Brazil—and synth bass by Kathleen Pineda. “Black River” and “Dream Sleeper” incorporate samples from recordings featuring Jaimie Branch, who passed away in August 2022, and the album is dedicated to her.
