Around 2020, private struggles and the breakup of his band Holy Hive piled up, and he went through a period that was extremely hard to get past mentally. You get drawn into the clear-eyed, philosophical lyricism here — the kind of writing that seems possible only after coming out the other side. Every track features a guest, with talents including KIRBY (aka Kirby Lauryen), the singer-songwriter who has written for top R&B artists like Ariana Grande, Beyoncé, Monica, and Brandy; NY home-recording multi-instrumentalist and SSW girl named GOLDEN; LA lo-fi psych SSW Hether; and labelmate trumpeter Dave Guy. Eleven tracks in all, including "Racecar Driver feat. KIRBY, Hether and girl named GOLDEN" (sample_1), a hip-hop/funk cut whose horn lines and fat drums recall '90s OutKast and stir the soul; the crystalline love song "Deep Sea feat.
