Mad Professor’s early work explodes onto the scene. One of the few releases by the duo Aquizim—featuring Bernard Cumberbatch and Garnett Cross—this Ariwa 10-inch classic is being reissued for the first time in 18 years.
Track List
Strong nyabinghi drum dubbings from 1981, with Mad Professor at the control. Huge flip of The Revolutionaries famous 70s classic, Kunta Kinte .
Bernard Cumberbatch - presumably no relation to actor Benedict - and Garnett Cross are Aquizi, the dub duo fromed in the early 80s and Ariwa label mainstays. Their most notable 12" - aside from maybe 1981's 'Merry Christmas' was 'Kunte Kinte' earlier in the same year. It is a bit of a collector's fav that has more than held its value over the ensuing 40+ years. Driven by lazy dub swagger and carefree keys, it's a lovers rock outing peppered with toms and hits and plenty of echoing depths. Flip it over for version if you want something that will boggle the brain more with its endless mixing board effects.

An 1981 release by the UK roots/dub duo Aquizim, released on 〈Ariwa Sounds〉. Built upon the legendary Jamaican riddim “Kunta Kinte,” this is a classic early UK dub track that blends the spirituality of roots reggae with the sweetness of lovers rock. On the B-side, the young Mad Professor shows his true colors, delivering a breathtaking dub mix in which he manipulates the mixing desk like an instrument.
