Rare recordings unearthed from the unlikeliest of places — flea markets, collectors' basements and beyond. A compilation shining a light on Austria's 1980s underground! A wide sweep of genres, from soul and AOR to boogie and proto-house. Every track offers a glimpse of the era's subcultural essence, and those quirky sonic touches really hit the spot.

A new release from 〈EDITION HAWARA〉, the label that has already dug up and reissued obscure Austrian collector's items by the likes of ZENIT and ROBERT PONGER! This time around it's a substantial compilation themed on 1980s subculture. The selections come from recordings tracked down in places where hidden treasure might lurk — basement storerooms of aging buildings, long-established tailor shops and the like — and every one of them is, of course, hard to find. Highlights include the sentimental AOR jam "Love Is A Game" by CRUMB (sample1), the proto instrumental synth boogie "Zonenzeit" by ANONYM (sample2), and the new age percussive downtempo of Kottan's Kapelle/Christian Kolonovits' "Ouvertuere Tiger" (sample3). Eight tracks spanning various genres, all with a distinctly leftfield approach. Every cut is a winner, making it tough to pick just a few samples — be sure to check the tracklist too.
